• 2005: Partner Jake Barnes suffered a right thumb amputation in the fifth round of the Wrangler NFR. Koontz  finished the last five rounds with Trevor Brazile and rebounded in fine fashion by winning the sixth round and tying the then arena record of 3.7 seconds and sharing the victory in round eight with a 3.8-second run. He finished the year ranked third in the world with $142.237. Won the Summer Tour Finale (Omaha, Neb.); the Dodge City (Kan.) 6-1, 175 ... Son, Jae; daughters, Harlee and Ashlee ... Hobbies include golf ... Has diabetes and wears an insulin monitor that automatically gives him insulin when he needs it. He initially took insulin injections, but he changed to the insulin pump after his mother-in-law, Janie Ray, showed him an article on PGA golfer Scott Verplank, who uses the insulin pump. The insulin is fast-acting and provides insulin 24 hours a day, but he still checks his blood glucose level eight to 10 times a day. He was featured in Diabetes Forecast magazine ...
