Tompkins, an eight-time world champion and ProRodeo Hall of Famer, passed away June 29 in Stephenville, Texas. He was 90.

The weather might be cooler up north at the Williams Lake (B.C.) Stampede, but the competition is as hot as the rest of the Cowboy Christmas rodeos. Since 1962, this Canadian rodeo has hosted some of ProRodeo’s biggest names, but only the best cowboys leave their mark by setting a rodeo record.

The Prescott, Ariz., rodeo is underway through July 4 and cowboys will be competing for a piece of the prize money and a chance to set a rodeo record such as Cody Whitney's 93-point ride from 2012.

With the addition of Rusty Wright in 2017, the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede’s saddle bronc riding record of 87 points is shared by nine cowboys. All of Greeley's records and the prize money, will be up for grabs June 27 through July 3. As part of the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour, fans can catch the Greeley action on the Wrangler Network, July 2-3.

Saddle Bronc rider Heith DeMoss, shown above during his 85.5-point ride on Brookman Rodeo's Kid Rock during Round 4 of the 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, suffered a season-ending left shoulder injury June 20 at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo.

Cowboy Christmas is nearly here, and 28 cowboys are coming in on a roll as they saw their positions improve within the Top 15 this week. With $1.6 million on the table across 26 PRCA competitions, the fourth week of June saw many of the top cowboys winning large checks across the continent. Team roping heeler Chase Tryan had the biggest move within the Top 15, from 29th to 15th.

Since 1953, Rodeo de Santa Fe (N.M.) has played host to some of the biggest names in ProRodeo, but only the best cowboys have left their mark by setting a rodeo record. Joe Beaver set the Santa Fe record for most money won in all-around in 2005 with $4,288.

The third week of June had 13 cowboys move up within the Top 15 as they competed at 20 PRCA competitions worth a collective $670,208. Out of the group, steer wrestler Matt Reeves had the biggest move, jumping from 10th to seventh.

Louis Brooks is recognized as one of the all-time rodeo greats, even though his career lasted only seven seasons. The highly decorated cowboy won six world championships in a three-year period – including a rare triple crown in 1944 when he was the champion all-around cowboy while also claiming the saddle bronc riding and bareback riding titles.

Riker Carter won his first career Division 1 Xtreme Bulls event by claiming the title in Reno, Nev., June 14. He won the average with 174 points on two head.

Many records have been set and broken at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo since it started in 1919, and none are older than steer wrestler Walt Linderman’s 1963 record time of 3.1 seconds that remains intact after 54 years. But that could change as this year’s Reno Rodeo kicks off June 15.
