Since 1953, Rodeo de Santa Fe (N.M.) has played host to some of the biggest names in ProRodeo, but only the best cowboys have left their mark by setting a rodeo record. Joe Beaver set the Santa Fe record for most money won in all-around in 2005 with $4,288.

The third week of June had 13 cowboys move up within the Top 15 as they competed at 20 PRCA competitions worth a collective $670,208. Out of the group, steer wrestler Matt Reeves had the biggest move, jumping from 10th to seventh.

Louis Brooks is recognized as one of the all-time rodeo greats, even though his career lasted only seven seasons. The highly decorated cowboy won six world championships in a three-year period – including a rare triple crown in 1944 when he was the champion all-around cowboy while also claiming the saddle bronc riding and bareback riding titles.

Riker Carter won his first career Division 1 Xtreme Bulls event by claiming the title in Reno, Nev., June 14. He won the average with 174 points on two head.

Many records have been set and broken at the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo since it started in 1919, and none are older than steer wrestler Walt Linderman’s 1963 record time of 3.1 seconds that remains intact after 54 years. But that could change as this year’s Reno Rodeo kicks off June 15.

With $1.5 million up for grabs between 31 ProRodeo competitions, cowboys were hitting the rodeo road during the second week of June. Out of those competitions, 32 cowboys saw their position improve within the Top 15. Steven Duby had the biggest jump, going from 22nd to 15th in team roping heading.

Saddle bronc rider Jake Wright rode Flying U Rodeo Company’s Against All Odds during Round 7 of the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The horse, a multiple-time NFR qualifier, passed away June 7 after a two-year battle with cancer.

The next stop on the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour is the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo. The rodeo runs from June 15-23. The total committee purse of the 2017 Reno (Nev.) Rodeo was $300,000, which was tied with the Ponoka (Alberta) Stampede for the 12th-highest committee purse last season. The total payout for the 2017 Reno Rodeo was $491,909.
