Bareback rider Trenten Montero is making it count in points and in qualifications. An 81.5-point score was all it took to grab his biggest win of the year at the Sisters (Ore.) Rodeo. He’s been holding back on competing so he can go to the year’s biggest rodeos during the summer run.

Saddle bronc rider Jake Wright rode Flying U Rodeo Company’s Against All Odds during Round 7 of the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The horse, a multiple-time NFR qualifier, passed away June 7 after a two-year battle with cancer.

The next stop on the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour is the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo. The rodeo runs from June 15-23. The total committee purse of the 2017 Reno (Nev.) Rodeo was $300,000, which was tied with the Ponoka (Alberta) Stampede for the 12th-highest committee purse last season. The total payout for the 2017 Reno Rodeo was $491,909.

Summer competition is off to a hot start as the first week of June offered $963,278 in prize money at 23 ProRodeo events across North America. Out of those competitions, 26 cowboys saw their position improve within the Top 15 and Boudreaux Campbell (pictured above) had the biggest move.

During the calm before ProRodeo’s summer-run storm, 16 cowboys saw their position within the 2018 RAM World Standings improve this week by competing at 10 PRCA rodeos worth a collective $368,876. Tyler Wade moved from 19th to 15th among the team roping headers and Trey Yates moved from 17th to 13th among the heelers.

The name has changed but the caliber of competition remains the same in Fort Smith, Ark., home to the fastest steer roping time in ProRodeo history. Cody Scheck set that famed steer roping run in 7.7 seconds at Fort Smith in 2012. Nobody before or since has had a faster run across all PRCA-sanctioned rodeos.

PRCA CEO George Taylor speaks during a press conference Tuesday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. RFD-TV’s The American announced it will be sanctioned by the PRCA and will add $355,000 in additional prize money to increase the prize money to $2,355,000. The 2019 American will be held March 2-3 at AT&T Stadium.
