Egusquiza/Koontz broke the rodeo record at the Oakley (Utah) Independence Day Rodeo with a time of 3.5 seconds on July 6. Steer wrestler Will Lummus also tied a record at the Rooftop Rodeo in Estes Park, Colo., as did team ropers Steven Duby/Evan Arnold at St. Paul (Ore.) Rodeo.

Jesse Wright, the 2012 PRCA World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider, was injured June 29 at the Ponoka (Alberta) Stampede. While Wright is on the mend, bareback rider Tanner Aus, a three-time qualifier for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, hopes to return to competition next week after missing time with a left knee injury.

Named for its high elevation of 7,500 feet, the Rooftop Rodeo in Estes Park, Colo., is considered by many to be the final rodeo in the Cowboy Christmas run. Cowboys will have from July 5-10 to leave their mark at one of the highest rodeos in the country and make one final cash-in during Cowboy Christmas.

Steer wrestler Cody Cabral won the World's Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Ariz., which ended July 4, with a 9.4-second time in the two-head average. Cabral is trying to make a charge to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo for the second time in his career.

Centrally located in most of the Cowboy Christmas action is the Oakley Independence Day Rodeo in Oakley City, Utah. Since 1984, this rodeo has played an increasingly significant role in the PRCA's hottest time of the season. Steer wrestler Dean Gorsuch set the Oakley City record of 3.3 seconds in 2006.

Although the Red Lodge, Mont., rodeo dates to the 19th century, its ProRodeo record book begins in 1945. Now cowboys have from July 2-4 to collect their share of the Red Lodge prize money and leave their mark in the record book. Tie-down roper Matt Shiozawa set the Red Lodge record of 6.8 seconds in 2008.
