Weekly Recap

by Matt Naber | Sep 24, 2018

The end of the regular season is rapidly approaching and opportunities to cash in and break into the Top 15 were limited Sept. 17-23. With the stakes higher than ever, cowboys brought their best to the nine PRCA competitions held across North America last week worth a cumulative $319,447.

The fastest times and highest scores might not always make the record book, but they make a lasting memory for fans and competitors. With about 650 PRCA competitions across the Western Hemisphere each year, there are plenty of opportunities to make a memorable ride.

Although the prize money differs from one competition to the next, the judging remains consistent across the board.

In addition to the fame that comes with winning the most prize money, each ride was a chance to be the best of the week. Here’s a look at the highest scores and fastest times for each event during that period.

Two bareback riders made 86.5-point rides, and both were at the Amarillo (Texas) Tri-State Fair and Rodeo. Bill Tutor made his ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Wild West, Sept. 20. The next day, Tilden Hooper matched his score on Rafter G Rodeo’s Biscuit.

This is Tutor’s second week in a row of posting the highest bareback riding score of the week. The 27-year-old Texas cowboy made a 91.5-point ride on Pickett Rodeo’s Top Flight at the New Mexico State Fair & Rodeo in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 13.

Steer wrestler Tyler Waguespack made a 3.3-second run at the Pasadena (Texas) Livestock Show & Rodeo, Sept. 23.

Team ropers Coleman Proctor and Ryan Motes made a 3.8-second run at the Springhill (La.) PRCA Rodeo, Sept. 21.

Saddle bronc rider Ryder Wright made an 86-point ride on Stace Smith Pro Rodeos’ Going South at Amarillo, Sept. 21.

Tie-down roper Adam Gray made a 7.4-second run at the Four States Fair & Rodeo in Texarkana, Ark., Sept. 21.

Steer roper Scott Snedecor clocked in at 9.6 seconds at Amarillo, Sept. 19.

Barrel racer Wendy Chesnut made a 12.83-second run at the Coy Lutz Memorial Rodeo in Centre Hall, Pa., Sept. 22.

Bull rider Jesse Petri made an 89.5-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Wild Onion at Amarillo, Sept. 20.
