COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Multi-event competitor Zack Jongbloed was having a strong rookie season in the PRCA.

Unfortunately, it ended abruptly for the Iowa, La., cowboy on July 13 when he was competing in tie-down roping in Vernal, Utah.

“I tore my ACL in my right knee and I’m going to be out for six to eight months,” said Jongbloed, 19. “It’s frustrating, but for every downfall there is an uphill battle. I just have to make the best of it, and God has a plan. I just have to look on the bright side and get something good out of it.”

Jongbloed said he initially tweaked his knee at the Ponoka (Alberta) Stampede. He hurt it seriously at the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo in Vernal, Utah, Friday the 13th.

“I’m planning to have surgery next week and then start rehab immediately,” said Jongbloed, who recently completed his freshman season competing for McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La.

As of July 18, Jongbloed was second in the PRCA | Resistol Rookie of the Year standings in all-around with $31,581. He was leading the steer wrestling standings with $13,042 and he was fifth in tie-down roping with $18,539.
