Round 9 news and notes

Don't Miss Round 9Chancey Williams
is the opening act and the national anthem will be performed by Ricochet. Williams, an American country singer, is a former saddle bronc rider and the only individual –along with late rodeo cowboy Chris LeDoux – to compete at Cheyenne Frontier Days and perform on its main stage as a major entertainer. Country music group Ricochet has also performed the anthem at NASCAR Sprint Cup, Major League Baseball and National Football League events. RAM is the performance sponsor.

Vold out after dislocated knee
After a dislocating his right knee while riding Beutler & Son’s Redigo during Round 8, bareback rider Jake Vold will not compete in the last two rounds of the 2017 WNFR. Vold is a three-time qualifier (2014-17) and is currently ranked 10th in the average with 598.5 points on seven head. This year he entered the WNFR in eighth place and won Round 1, scoring 87.5 on Kesler Championship Rodeo’s Oakridge. He was first in the WNFR average before his injury.

In Round 9, bareback rider Tim O’Connell and Korkow Rodeos’ Feather Fluffer meet again. Last year, O’Connell rode him for 84 points, winning the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo. Feather Fluffer is 7-year-old red paint mare; this year she bucked off Masons Clements during Round 4. Tanner Aus will be riding J Bar J’s Hell On Hooves – Aus also rode him for 83.5 points at the Kill Deer Mountain Roundup Rodeo this year, and again at the McCone County Fair, scoring 81 points...

Saddle bronc rider Brody Cress and his draw for Round 9 have history. Cress will ride Calgary Stampede’s Stampede Warrior for a third time in 2017. Cress scored 85 points on Stampede Warrior at the Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up and 89 points at the Washington State Fair in Puyallup, Wash. Layton Green will ride Stace Smith’s Pony Man – the horse Ryder Wright won Round 4 on, scoring 89 points...

Bull rider Ty Wallace has a chance for a high score because he will be riding the 2017 Bucking Bull of the Year, D&H Cattle’s SweetPro’s Bruiser, in Round 9. At the 2016 WNFR, Brennon Eldred scored 94.5 points on Bruiser, the highest scored ride in 2016. Bruiser was a runner-up in the 2016 Bull of the Year balloting and the Top Bull of the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Bruiser bucked off Boudreaux Campbell this year in Round 3. Tim Bingham could see his position improve in the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings, as he will be atop Smith, Harper & Morgan’s Hot and Ready. The bull placed third in the 2017 Bucking Stock of the Year awards, and has yet to be ridden this year.
