Round-Up Sept. 15-16, beginning at 1:15 p.m. (PT) each day … will broadcast the Pendleton Round-Up Sept. 13-16, beginning at 1 p.m. (PT) each day. Replays will be aired at 5 p.m. (PT) each night on Rural Radio … The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and the PRCA will unveil a new exhibit – A History of Youth Rodeo – featuring the National High School Rodeo Association and the National Little Britches Rodeo Association. The unveiling will take place from 5-7 p.m. (MT) Sept. 20 at the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado Springs, Colo. R.S.V.P. required by Sept. 13 to Amber Jacobs at or 719.528.4726.
The Pendleton (Ore.) Round-Up, in collaboration with the Farmers Ending Hunger organization, is holding Farmers Ending Hunger Day on Sept. 13 at the annual Pendleton Round-Up Rodeo. The Wednesday performance at the 2017 Round-Up and Happy Canyon Night Pageant will be dedicated to bringing awareness in the fight against hunger in the state of Oregon and the surrounding region. Farmers Ending Hunger works with local farmers to produce food for those who need it most. The Pendleton Round-Up has adopted twenty acres of farmland in their fight against hunger. The money raised by adopting acres is used for transportation, food processing and packaging costs. Also, the Pendleton Round-Up, with the assistance of River Point Farms, will match up to $5,000 donated by attendees and fans at this year’s Round-Up. Last year, the Farmers Ending Hunger organization donated over 4 million pounds of food to the Oregon Food Bank; 85 percent of which comes from local Umatilla and Morrow counties. The 2017 Children’s Rodeo is at the Round-Up Grounds on Sept. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (PT) and there is no admission charge. Last year, children ages 5 to 12 with varying special needs traveled from across northeastern Oregon to participate in the annual rodeo. Events included bull riding, steer roping, barrel racing on stick horses, and a new addition to last year’s rodeo – Frank Rendon’s “Legendary Longhorns” from Sweet Home, where the kids sat atop Shot Gun and Show Gun and got their picture taken.
Floating Horses: The Life of Casey Tibbs, a new documentary directed by Denver filmmaker Justin Koehler, will screen on September 16 at 1:45 p.m. (MT) at DocuWest Film Festival in Denver, Colo., at Alamo Drafthouse Sloan’s Lake. The 94-minute film tells the story of Casey Tibbs, a nine-time world champion cowboy from Mission Ridge, S.D.
The ProRodeo Hall of Fame and Museum of the American Cowboy in Colorado Springs, Colo., will open its doors free of charge on Sept. 23, as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 13th annual Museum Day Live! This year, Museum Day Live! will feature special interactive lesson plans created by the Smithsonian in partnership with Microsoft using Minecraft: Education Edition. The lesson plans are available for download on the Museum Day Live! website. The annual event, held each year at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, is scheduled for Dec. 7-16. A service in memoriam of his recent passing will be held at the Ponoka Stampede Grounds at 5 p.m. (MT) on Sept. 19. Bruce was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 1989. Bruce’s PRCA career was highlighted by winning the 1961 world championship.
