Standings Shuffle: 27 cowboys move up

With $1.12 million up for grabs between 20 PRCA rodeos across North America this past week, 27 cowboys saw their position improve within the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings’ Top 15.

Nobody knows this better than team roping header Jesse Stipes who jumped from 26th to 14th thanks to the $5,965 he won at the Central Wyoming Fair & Rodeo in Casper, and the $2,183 he won at the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo in Mitchell, S.D.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER. It’s important to build a solid bankroll while the summer season is in full swing.

Having three rodeos with six-figure payoffs this week proved to be a major boost as cowboys competed for $258,822 at the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, $239,118 in Casper, and $102,910 in Mitchell.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between July 12 and July 17.

• Taos Muncy moved from 12th to seventh in saddle bronc riding.
• Josh Swor moved from 16th to 11th in tie-down roping.
• Joseph Harrison moved from 13th to ninth in team roping heeling.
• Tyler Pearson moved from 15th to 11th in steer wrestling.
• Guthrie Murray moved from 15th to 11th in bull riding.
• Ty Breuer moved from 16th to 12th in bareback riding.
• Cole Melancon moved from 13th to 10th in bull riding.
• Nick Guy moved from seventh to fifth in steer wrestling.
• Charly Crawford moved from 11th to ninth in team roping heading.
• Clay Elliott moved from 11th to ninth in saddle bronc riding.
• Rocky Patterson moved from 12th to 10th in steer roping.
• Jason Evans moved from third to second in steer roping.
• Chet Herren moved from fourth to third in steer roping.
• Coleman Proctor moved from fifth to fourth in team roping heading.
• Billie Jack Saebens moved from fifth to fourth in team roping heeling.
• Paul Eaves moved from sixth to fifth in team roping heeling.
• J. Tom Fisher moved from sixth to fifth in steer roping.
• Evan Jayne moved from seventh to sixth in bareback riding.
• Tim Bingham moved from seventh to sixth in bull riding.
• Jordan Spears moved from ninth to eighth in bull riding.
• Justin Miller moved from 10th to ninth in bareback riding.
• Cody Quaney moved from 10th to ninth in tie-down roping.
• Hunter Herrin moved from 11th to 10th in tie-down roping.
• Sterling Lambert moved from 14th to 13th in steer wrestling.
• Garrett Hale moved from 15th to 14th in steer roping.
• Trevor Brazile moved from 16th to 15th in steer roping.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Saddle bronc rider Jake Watson moved from 18th to 16th and is $563 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Tie-down roper Cooper Martin moved from 18th to 16th and is $1,024 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the Day’s of ’47 Cowboy Games and Rodeo in Salt Lake City, California Rodeo Salinas, and the Spanish Fork (Utah) Fiesta Days Rodeo on the horizon, the outcomes of these rodeos and others are sure to impact the world standings, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete at the 2017 Wrangler NFR.

Check back with next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
