Standings shuffle: 20 cowboys move up

With over half a million dollars up for grabs between nine PRCA rodeos across the country this past weekend, 20 cowboys saw their position improve within the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings’ Top 15.

Despite all the ProRodeo action this past weekend, there were no changes – neither up nor down – in the saddle bronc riding standings.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER. It’s important to build a solid lead as the summer season approaches.

Several of the Top 15 cowboys saw their position in the world stands improve, largely thanks to the $253,433 payoff at the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between May 1 and May 8.

J.D. Struxness moved from 14th to 11th in steer wrestling
Clayton Hass moved from 17th to 14th in team roping heading
Jon Ragatz moved from 18th to 15th in steer wrestling
Guthrie Murray moved from 18th to 15th in bull riding
Tuf Cooper moved from eighth to sixth in tie-down roping
Tyler Pearson moved from 11th to ninth in steer wrestling

Chad Rutherford moved from seventh to sixth in bareback riding
Tyson Durfey moved from ninth to eighth in tie-down roping
Trevor Reiste moved from 10th to ninth in bull riding

Cody Lee moved from 12th to 11th in steer roping
• Wyatt Bloom moved from 13th to 12th in bareback riding
• Hayes Smith moved from 14th to 13th in team roping heading
J.R. Vezain moved from 15th to 14th in bareback riding
Shay Good moved from 15th to 14th in steer roping

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Team roping header Clay O’Brien Cooper moved from 18th to 16th and is $57 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the Helldorado Days Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nev., on the horizon, the outcome of this rodeo and others is sure to impact the world standings in a big way, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete at the 2017 WNFR.

Check back with next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
