With $417,788 up for grabs, 18 cowboys saw their positions improve within the Top 15 of the world standings April 15-22. Steer roper Landon McClaugherty jumped 24 spots last week, from 35th to 11th, thanks to picking up $7,301 at the Ron Ross Memorial Steer Roping.

In his second year of PRCA competition, bull rider Aaron Williams was out for redemption at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo. He didn't get a qualified ride in 2018, but this year he claimed the top spot with an 89-point ride on Big Stone Rodeo Inc.’s War Car.

Spectators at the 1976 Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo witnessed the best steer wrestling in the rodeo’s history. That year, two steer wrestling records were set, and both still stand 43 years later. Anson Thurman (pictured) made a record, 3.2-second run, while Danny Torricellas’ two runs added up to 7.9 seconds, a two-head time that has yet to be matched.

Bareback rider J.R. Vezain suffered a broken back Sept. 22 while competing at the Pasadena (Texas) Livestock Show & Rodeo when he was riding Frontier Rodeo Company’s Brazos Bash. The injury required surgery and has left him with mobility issues from the waist down. He continues to rehabilitate.

Cody Rostockyj, who joined the PRCA in 2009 and qualified for the 2016 Wrangler NFR, is walking away at age 29. Rostockyj, above, had an 85.5-point ride on Andrews Rodeo’s Monkey Punch to split the Round 7 win at the 2016 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. ​
