KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Tie-down roper Cory Solomon has had a strong winter, and he kept that going with a win at the 140th Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee, Fla., Sunday. Solomon is hoping that trend continues in the middle of what has been an extremely busy winter for the 28-year-old, Texas cowboy.

The third time’s the charm for saddle bronc rider Wade Sundell as he won the San Angelo (Texas) Rodeo for the third time on Feb. 16 with 175 points on two head.

After winning the first two rounds of his bracket in San Antonio, Wade Sundell of Coleman, Okla., completed a clean sweep in the saddle bronc riding after winning the third round with an 87-point score on Andrews Rodeo’s Fire Lane.

This week’s big winners weren’t just whistling Dixie, as 19 cowboys moved up within the Top 15 after competing for nearly $350,000 in prize money Feb. 5-15. The bulk of this week’s winnings came from the Dixie National Rodeo in Jackson, Miss., which boasted a $232,585 payout.

Since 1944, cowboys have had a lot to celebrate at La Fiesta de los Vaqueros in Tucson, Ariz. This iconic, Southwestern rodeo has featured some of ProRodeo’s biggest names as they compete for one of the biggest payouts of the year. Bull rider Dustin Elliott set the Tucson arena record of 93 points in 2006, which helped him also set the two-head average record of 181 points.

With $14,269 won so far at a single rodeo, bull rider Trevor Kastner’s on a roll at the San Antonio (Texas) Stock Show & Rodeo. The 30-year-old, Oklahoma cowboy had the only qualified ride in the first two rounds and won the third round – all while he and his wife, Kate, await the birth of their first child, McKenna Mae.

Both steer wrestling arena records at Jackson were set in 1983. J.W. Farrington clocked in at 2.9 seconds, while John W. Jones Jr. came in at 6.6 seconds on two runs.

The winter season may be cold, but ProRodeo’s competition was hot, as the first week of February saw 48 cowboys move up within the Top 15 as they competed for nearly $1 million in prizemoney from Jan. 29 through Feb. 5. Placing second in the average at Fort Worth launched tie-down roper from the bottom to 10th place.

Known for his saddle bronc savvy, South Dakota's Cole Elshere has reintroduced bull riding to his all-around game. At Rodeo Rapid City (S.D.), Elshere showed he's no bull riding slouch, winning more than $4,000 as he builds momentum towards a rewarding 2018 season.
