This was a week Ben Robinson didn’t see coming.

From Aug. 24-30, Robinson won the Golden Spike Rodeo in Tremonton, Utah, the Range Days Rodeo in Rapid City, S.D., and the Alamosa (Colo.) Round-Up. He earned $8,134 combined, with his biggest paydays coming in Rapid City ($3,652) and Tremonton ($3,429).

“It was a pretty dang-good week for sure,” said Robinson, 25.

Robinson, who calls Innisfail, Alberta, home, was at slack in Tremonton, Aug. 25 and clocked an 8.6-second run. Next, he went to Rapid City, Aug. 28 and registered an 8.0-second time. He made his winning run in Alamosa on Aug. 29, stopping the clock in 8.2 seconds.

With his windfall, Robinson climbed from 33rd to 25th in the PRCA | RAM World Standings as of Aug. 31 with $26,188.

“Before the week, I would have thought winning more than $8,000 would have been unrealistic,” Robinson said. “It really helped me out. I was actually going to head home after the Parowan (Utah) rodeo Sept. 7, but now I’m going to stay down here (in the U.S.) after the Gooding (Idaho) Pro Rodeo (Sept. 17-19) at the very least and try and get into the the ProRodeo Tour Finale in Rapid City (Sept. 23-26).”

The Top 24 contestants in the ProRodeo Tour standings in each event qualify for the Gold Buckle Beer ProRodeo Tour Finale. Robinson was 32nd in the latest Tour standings.

“This is actually the first year that I’ve gone to all these rodeos,” Robinson said. “A lot of times, I will get back at home and stick to more of the Canadian rodeos and just work on the (family ranch).

"Whereas this year, I have been gone since June 28.”

Robinson credited his horse Caesar, 16, for his recent victory binge.

“I have been using him all summer, and he started working really well in August, that’s when everything started to click,” he said.

When the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the rodeos in Canada, it changed Robinson’s plans.

“I would have been in Canada a lot more,” Robinson said. “I made the decision to come to the (U.S.) and rodeo.”

When Robinson isn’t rodeoing, he helps his father, Larry, and older brother, Kirk, run Robinson Family Farms.

“We run some cattle and some yearlings,” Ben said. “We're usually pretty busy around there.”
