PRCA For The Record: Wrangler NFR Round 1

The 61st annual Wrangler National Finals Rodeo kicks off in 15 days, and the top cowboys in the 2019 PRCA | RAM World Standings are eagerly awaiting their chance to win their share of the $10 million rodeo and possibly set a round record along the way.

The Finals are at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Dec. 5-14.

Every point counts, and a fraction of a second can mean the difference between winning the world or coming in second at the Wrangler NFR, which is why Round 1 presents some of the fiercest competition.

Trevor Knowles set the steer wrestling record for Round 1 with his 3.1-second run in 2013. That year, Knowles placed in three other rounds to finish sixth in the 2013 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $137,907.

Knowles made 13 consecutive trips to the Wrangler NFR (2004-16), ranking as high as third in the world standings in 2010. Since his rookie year in 2001, the Oregon cowboy has won more than $1.6 million.

Although he’s backed off from ProRodeo competition in recent years, he continues to compete and still holds or shares records at some of the biggest ProRodeo competitions:

Big Sky Pro Rodeo in Great Falls, Mont. – 2.9 seconds and 6.8 seconds on two head, 2013
Livingston (Mont.) Roundup Rodeo – 3.3 seconds, 2014
Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – 3.3 seconds, 2014
Redding (Calif.) Rodeo – 3.2 seconds and 7.4 seconds on two head, 2013
Walla Walla (Wash.) Frontier Days – 3.5 seconds and 7.4 seconds on two head, 2009
