PRCA Standings Shuffle: 22 Move Up In Top 15

Slow and steady won the race as 22 cowboys moved up within the Top 15 of their events May 27 through June 2 – 16 of which moved by a single spot.

With 25 PRCA competitions worth a collective $895,856 last week, many ProRodeo athletes cashed in but as the season progresses it will take more money to make a move within the 2019 PRCA | RAM World Standings.

So far, the 2019 season’s total payoff has exceeded $17.5 million between 241 competitions, but there’s still plenty more to be won as the summer run approaches. To keep that total in perspective, the 2018 season had 643 competitions worth $38,564,889 so it’s still anyone’s game as there’s plenty of opportunities to catch up between now and the end of September.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the summer run approaches.

Nobody knows this better than team roping header Hunter Koch, saddle bronc rider Spencer Wright and tie-down roper Timber Moore as all three cowboys moved three spots this week.

Koch jumped from 11th to eighth among team roping heelers thanks to winning $3,254 last week with his partner Matt Sherwood. The duo picked up $1,993 at the Grande Prairie (Alberta) Stompede and $1,261 at the Leduc (Alberta) Black Gold Rodeo. Koch is still relatively new to the ProRodeo scene, having placed third in the 2018 PRCA | Resistol Rookie Standings with $24,002.

Wright moved from 11th to eighth in the saddle bronc riding standings by winning $5,974 last week. The 2014 World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider raked in $3,396 at the Great Plains Xtreme Broncs Match in Herreid, S.D., $1,972 at the Casey Tibbs Match of Champions Xtreme Bronc Ride in Fort Pierre, S.D., and $606 at the Pony Express Rodeo in Eagle Mountain, Utah.

Moore moved from 18th to 15th in tie-down roping thanks to winning $4,199 last week. The six-time Wrangler NFR qualifier (2011, 2013-17) won the Old Fort Days Rodeo in Fort Smith, Ark., for $3,103 and picked up $1,096 at the 71st Annual PRCA Rodeo in Crossett, Ark.

Cowboys will have 29 PRCA competitions to choose from this week, including the Sisters (Ore.) Rodeo, which runs June 7-9. With the season still young and plenty of prize money on the table, big jumps are sure to happen again.

The following cowboys also moved up within the Top 15 last week.
