R.C. Landingham draws Bridwell Pro Rodeos' Wild N Blue at Redding

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Veteran PRCA bareback rider R.C. Landingham is making the climb up the PRCA | RAM World Standings in search of his third qualification to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Landingham, who sits 14th in the world standings with $36,559, will have a great opportunity to move up after drawing perennial Wrangler NFR horse Bridwell Pro Rodeos’ Wild N Blue. Landingham is slated to get on Wild N Blue on May 17 at the Redding (Calif.) Rodeo, a ProRodeo Tour stop.

“I’ve never been able to get on that horse,” said Landingham, who qualified for the Wrangler NFR in 2016-17. “I’m excited about this opportunity. She’s a horse that everybody really wants to draw because she’s so fun to ride. She really gets in the air and has a lot of exposure, and she's one you can show off on, so I’m really excited about it. There’s a little pressure because she’s a horse that 90 percent of the guys who get on her make the high 80s on her. You definitely don’t want to screw things up, but I think it should be a good outcome.”

In Round 4 of the 2018 Wrangler NFR in Las Vegas, Steven Dent had an 84-point ride on Wild N Blue. In Round 9, Shane O’Connell also had an 84-point ride on the horse in the photo above.

During the 2018 regular season, Richmond Champion won the Justin Finale in September with a 90-point ride on Wild N Blue. Orin Larsen posted an 88.5-point ride on Wild N Blue to finish second in the finals at the Clark County Fair & Rodeo in Logandale, Nev.

Landingham, who lives in Hat Creek, Calif., also is ninth in the ProRodeo Tour standings.

“To draw that horse, I have a good chance of possibly winning first," Landingham said. "It could not have come at a better time.”

The ProRodeo Tour features 55 rodeos showcasing the top cowboys and rodeos. It began with the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo in Denver, Jan. 17-27, and concludes with the Tour Finale in Puyallup, Wash., Sept. 5-8.

With the ProRodeoTour, all cowboys eligible to compete in Tour rodeos will have the opportunity to earn Tour points and qualify for the Tour Finale in Puyallup, which takes the top 24 contestants in each event.

Landingham is finally healthy from injury. He missed last season after having left shoulder surgery Jan. 5, 2018, and right wrist surgery March 2 that season.

In 2016, Landingham finished a career-best sixth in the world standings with $211,986. He won Rounds 7 and 10 and finished seventh in the average. The Hat Creek, Calif., cowboy initially hurt his shoulder at the Ramona (Calif.) Rodeo on May 21, 2017. It didn’t heal on its own. In 2017, he qualified for the Wrangler NFR and finished 15th in the world standings.
