PRCA Standings Shuffle: 20 Move Up In Top 15

The Kimzey brothers, Sage and Trey, have been in the PRCA Top 15 for bull riding off and on throughout the 2019 season. But May 7 marked the first time both have been in the PRCA | RAM World Standings’ Top 15 at the same time, with Sage Kimzey taking over the No. 1 position.

Fresh off winning his fifth consecutive world title, Sage re-entered the Top 15 on Feb. 12 and fell out on Feb. 26, but he was back in again March 11. One week later, the 24-year-old cowboy was in the top three, and a month after that he moved up one spot to second place on April 15.

Rookie Trey Kimzey, 20, was in the Top 15 in February but fell into the 20s and remained there until he climbed to 17th at the end of April.

Now, the brothers are on the same page, thanks to winning a collective $8,873 the first week of May:

• Sage won $5,330 at the Wharton (Texas) County Youth Fair & Exposition Xtreme Bulls event, May 2, and $1,731 at the Helotes (Texas) Festival Association Rodeo, May 4.
• Trey won $1,101 at the Panola County Cattlemen’s Pro Rodeo in Carthage, Texas, May 4, and $711 in Wharton, May 2.

Cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 in the PRCA | RAM World Standings early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the summer run approaches.

With the season still young and plenty of prize money on the table, big jumps are sure to happen again.

While neither of the Kimzeys won money at the $237,795 Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo, many PRCA cowboys struck gold there and moved up within the Top 15 this week.

Here are those cowboys that moved up within the Top 15 last week.

• Team roping header Kory Kidd V moved from 17th and is $822 away from breaking into the Top 15.

Cowboys will have eight PRCA competitions to choose from this week, including the historic Las Vegas Days rodeo, previously known as the Helldorado Days Rodeo. Fans can catch the Las Vegas action on at 5 p.m. (PT), May 10-11.

Check back with next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
