News & Notes from the rodeo trail

Four-time PRCA World Champion Bareback Rider Kaycee Feild is on the road to recovery after getting injured March 30 in the finals at Rodeo Austin (Texas).

Feild, who won four consecutive world titles from 2011-14, had an 87-point ride on Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Nutrena’s Killer Bee but was injured moments after the whistle. Feild, 32, was treated at Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin and was released from the hospital April 2. Feild’s older brother, Shad, drove Kaycee home and they arrived in Genola, Utah, April 3. Feild is having one of the best seasons of his star-studded career. As of April 8, he was leading the PRCA | RAM World Standings with $115,965.

At the monthly membership dinner on March 22, the Reno (Nev.) Rodeo Association presented a check to the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund for $9,071.03. The association raised the money thanks to the Reno Rodeo Bowling Tournament held Jan. 19. This is the second year the association has held the fundraiser. The Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund (JCCF) was created by the Justin Boot Company in partnership with the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association (WPRA) in order to lend a helping hand to professional rodeo athletes and their families in the event of serious injuries resulting from professional rodeo activities and to fill the void of financial hardship when the inevitable serious injury interferes with the careers of those who have dedicated their lives to the sport.

On April 1, North Dakota became the 14th state to pass the National Day of the Cowboy bill into law (SCR 4003). Officials acknowledged Rick Thompson of the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame for enlisting the support of Sen. Rich Wardner, who lined up co-sponsors for the bill.
