Josh Garner sidelined with collarbone, shoulder injuries

by Tracy Renck | Apr 03, 2019

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Steer wrestler Josh Garner, who is having a career-best PRCA season, will be sidelined up to four months as a result of injuries he suffered in a single-car accident March 18 near Red Bluff, Calif.

“I broke my (left) collarbone and I’m having surgery on it today (April 3) in Reno, Nev.,” said Garner, 28. “I tore a couple of tendons in my right shoulder and I'm going to have surgery on it (April 17). I was a passenger in a truck, and we hit a tree.”

Garner, who lives in Live Oak, Calif., is second in the April 1 PRCA | RAM World Standings with $66,096. He earned $57,000 of that at RodeoHouston. He clocked a 4.6-second run during the Super Series Championship on March 16 in Houston to claim a $50,000 check.

“I’m trying to get fixed up as fast as I can, and hopefully, I can be back in August and still be able to make the NFR,” Garner said.

A year ago, steer wrestler Nick Guy made the Wrangler NFR in the No. 15 spot with $74,706.

Garner’s best season since joining the PRCA in 2009 came in 2018 when he finished 25th in the world standings with $52,344.
