Standings Shuffle: 31 move up in Top 15

by Matt Naber | May 01, 2018

The first million-dollar week of ProRodeo competition in the 2018 season saw 31 cowboys across seven events move up within the Top 15 of the RAM PRCA World Standings.

Veteran and rookie cowboys know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. Every dollar counts, and making the Top 15 early establishes a solid base and builds a cowboy’s confidence as the season picks up pace.

Nobody knows this better than steer wrestler Cameron Morman and steer roper Chet Herren (pictured above) as both cowboys jumped nine spots in the last week.

Morman moved from 20th to 11th in the steer wrestling standings thanks to winning $4,453 at Rodeo Corpus Christi and $3,641 at the Angelina County Benefit Rodeo in Lufkin, Texas.

Herren moved from 24th to 15th in the steer roping standings thanks to winning $5,803 at Rodeo Corpus Christi (Texas) and $1,185 at the National Circuit Finals Steer Roping in Torrington, Wyo.

The following cowboys saw their position in the RAM PRCA World Standings improve from April 23-30.

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves a few dollars short of qualifying for the Wrangler NFR. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16:

• Saddle bronc rider Jesse Wright moved from 22nd to 16th and is $1,385 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Steer wrestler Will Lummus moved from 18th to 16th and is $1,084 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the Guymon (Okla.) Pioneer Days Rodeo kicking off Friday, the outcome of this rodeo and others are sure to impact the world standings.

Check back with next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
