For the Record: Washington State Fair Rodeo

Since 1946, the significance of Puyallup, Wash., in ProRodeo has been more than just a large payout. The Washington State Fair Rodeo has hosted events such as the Wrangler ProRodeo Tour and the Justin Boots Playoffs, which started in 2009.

The Top 24 cowboys in the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings bring their best when competing at the Justin Boots Playoffs. From Sept. 7-10, each ride and each run will be a chance to make Puyallup history and get a spot in the arena record book.

Puyallup’s steer wrestling arena record was set a few months before the first National Finals Rodeo in 1959. Bulldogger Buz Peth clocked in with a jaw-dropping 2.8 seconds at Puyallup, which 58 years later is a mere four-tenths of a second shy of being the fastest steer wrestling time in ProRodeo history.

Trevor Brazile set the Puyallup record for most money earned in all-around with $15,834 in 2013.

Bareback rider Kaycee Feild set the arena record in 2012 with his 91-point ride.

Puyallup’s team roping arena record was originally set by Speed Williams and Rich Skelton in 2005 with their 4.0-second run. Ten years later, Garrett Rogers and Jake Minor also clocked in at 4.0 seconds.

Saddle bronc rider Taos Muncy made Puyallup’s first 91-point ride in 2011. He returned the following year and matched his own record.

Tie-down roper Cody Ohl set the Puyallup arena record in 2000 with his 6.9-second run.

Barrel racer Lindsay Sears clocked in at 13.86 seconds in 2011.

Four bull riders share the Puyallup arena record. Originally set by Jesse Bail in 2002, his 92-point ride was matched by Robey Condra (2003), J.W. Harris (2009) and Tyler Smith (2010).

Puyallup’s record payout was in 2009 with $609,142.
