Standings Shuffle: 14 cowboys move up

With $368,172 up for grabs between eight PRCA rodeos across the country this past weekend, 14 cowboys saw their position improve within the WEATHER GUARD® PRCA World Standings’ Top 15.

Despite all the ProRodeo action this past weekend, there were no changes – neither up nor down – among the Top 15 team roping headers, heelers, and steer ropers.

Veteran and rookie cowboys alike know it’s easier to maintain a position at the top than it is to play catch-up when trying to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo presented by Polaris RANGER. It’s important to build a solid lead as the summer season approaches.

Several of the Top 15 cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve, largely thanks to the $87,904 payoff at the Helldorado Days Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nev.

The following cowboys saw their position in the world standings improve between May 8 and May 15.
Joe Frost moved from eighth to sixth in bull riding
Evan Jayne moved from 10th to eighth in bareback riding
• Chance Howard moved from 10th to eighth in steer wrestling
Clayton Biglow moved from 16th to 14th in bareback riding
Roscoe Jarboe moved from third to second in bull riding
Marcos Costa moved from fifth to fourth in tie-down roping
Jordan Spears moved from sixth to fifth in bull riding
Clay Elliott moved from ninth to eighth in saddle bronc riding
Dakota Eldridge moved from 12th to 11th in steer wrestling
Matt Reeves moved from 14th to 13th in steer wrestling
Ryder Wright moved from 15th to 14th in saddle bronc riding
Guthrie Murray moved from 15th to 14th in bull riding

Cowboys on the bubble for a spot in the Top 15 can find themselves just a few dollars short of making a Wrangler NFR qualification. The following cowboys climbed the standings to No. 16 this past week:

• Steer wrestler Rowdy Parrott moved from 18th to 16th and is $568 away from breaking into the Top 15.
• Bull rider Trey Benton III moved from 17th to 16th and is $148 away from breaking into the Top 15.

With the Redding (Calif.) Rodeo and Redding Rodeo Champions Challenge on the horizon, the outcome of these rodeos and others are sure to impact the world standings in a big way, and possibly give a glimpse at who will compete at the 2017 Wrangler NFR.

Check back with prorodeo.com next week to see who the new leaders are in the world standings.
