Bobby Mote, Cowboy Blogger

Charlie Mote, eldest son of Bobby and Kate, enjoys boating as he and his family took time off from the rodeo trail to bask in some summer vacation before school starts.

I hope everyone has been enjoying our video blogs on RodeoUp www.rodeoup.com/pride.html or www.bobbymote.com) and for those who might have missed any, they are all available online to go back and watch. Remember at least one new one is posted every week. As a result of the video blog, I haven’t written a blog in a while but thought I had better catch everyone up on what has been happening.

I can’t believe we only have a month left in the 2009 regular season. A congratulations, goes out to fellow bareback rider Clint Cannon, who recently broke my regular-season earnings record. He is having a great year. Every time I think I am going to close the gap on him in the standings then he goes and wins just as much. He is really making it a challenge for me. I am entering some rodeos in this last month that I otherwise may not have if I wasn’t trying to climb closer to the top spot. However, it is fun to have a challenge like this because it keeps me on my toes and riding to the best of my ability. My goal is to have him gathered up by the time we head to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, but he sure isn’t making it easy on me. It should be an interesting finish, so please stay tuned.

This past week, our traveling team had a really good week. It seemed like all the rodeos we went to one of us left there winning it. Jason (Havens) probably had one of the best weeks he has had since the Fourth of July so that was good. He is trying to remain in the Top 15 with a month left to go in the regular season.

While we were in Montana for the rodeo in Kalispell we spent a day visiting (rodeo announcer) Bob Tallman at Flathead Lake (in Polson, Mont.). He took us out on his boat and we did some wakeboarding before we headed off to the rodeo in Moses Lake (Wash.). Be sure to keep an eye out on the video blog for some wakeboarding footage. That place is so beautiful and we had a great time playing in the water.

Trey Mote, the youngest of the Mote clan, is being careful not to get too much sun by wearing a hat while boating with his family.

I wasn’t able to compete in the bareback riding in Canby (Ore.) because it fell on the same night I had made the finals in Caldwell, Idaho. However, I was able to compete there in the team roping with a guy named Tucker Lind. I am happy to report that Tucker and I turned in a 7.5 in the first round and a 6.1 in the second round to place sixth in that round. We ended up tying for fourth in the average with a time of 13.6 seconds on two head and won $1,461. I plan to team rope again in Ellensburg (Wash.) and Pendleton (Ore.), so we will see how things go there.

Laura Mote, daughter of Bobby and Kate, holds up the barrel racing buckle she won, showing her dad isn’t the only Mote hauling in the hardware.

This past weekend (my daughter) Laura competed in the Pee Wee Finals rodeo and won her first buckle in the barrels. She also finished fifth in the poles and was fifth in the all-around. School starts in a week or so for (my eldest son) Charlie and Laura and I think they are a little ready. Obviously they enjoy the summer but they also like seeing their friends at school.

I always enjoy this time of the year because most of the rodeos we go to are in the Northwest so that means we can go to the rodeo and then come home for a couple of days before we go to the next week’s rodeos. Also it is our turn to play host to many of our friends like (four-time World Champion Team Roper Heeler) Allen Bach and his son Joel as well as Martin Lucero. Yesterday, we spent the afternoon roping and today we went to the lake.

That is about all the news I have for now. Be sure to keep an eye on my schedule (www.bobbymote.com) and remember to check out the video blog each week. You never know what we will be up to next.

Thanks for reading and we’ll talk to you down the road.
Bobby

About Mote:
Bobby Mote is a two-time World Champion Bareback Rider, claiming titles in 2002 and 2007. The Culver, Ore., cowboy has qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo eight straight years from 2001-08. Along with bareback riding, he competes in the team roping in the Columbia River Circuit. Mote travels to rodeos with fellow bareback riders Jason Havens and Ryan Gray. This year, they have added Brian Bain to the group called “The Pride.” Members of the Pride are carrying a video camera on the road with them this season and you can check out their videoblogs on RodeoUp.

Mote has hosted roughstock riding schools and is becoming a mentor to young cowboys after he was mentored by 1991 World Champion Bareback Rider Clint Corey.

Mote married wife, Kate, in 1999 and they have three children, Charlie, Laura and Trey. When not competing, Mote enjoys training horses and fishing.
