Hi everyone!
PRCA bullfighter Cory Wall and his fiancée Nikki Gagner attended the wedding of PRCA bullfighter Andy Burelle and his wife, Robyn, held recently in Las Vegas. “Elvis” also attended and posed for photos. |
After the first of the year came and went, things have been very busy but, real good. I started the year off in Odessa, Texas at the SandHills Stock Show and Rodeo. It was the finals for the Professional Bull Fighters. I was teamed up with Joe Garretson, who is always a lot of fun to fight bulls with. I then went to San Angelo, Texas for the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo. This has become one of my favorite rodeos all year long. Mark Duncan and his awesome rodeo committee do a great job of putting on an awesome event. Doug, one of the committee members, takes good care of me by always checking with me to see if there is anything I need. Doug always brings me a box of Snickers because he knows how much I love to have one before each performance. One afternoon, Doug brought his Welsh Corgi pup by, his name is Jake. I started calling him Skid because he hadn’t quite figured out what walking on a leash was all about…
Then I loaded up the trailer and headed for RodeoHouston. This was my third year fighting bulls at RodeoHouston, and what a treat it always is. They have more than 1,000 volunteers on hand and I never have to look far to get help of any kind. From the Reed Road trailer parking grounds where we all park for the three-week rodeo, to the rodeo production staff headed up by Mary Catherine Schultz, who does an awesome job, I am always made to feel right at home. While there, Leon Coffee, Dusty Tuckness, Clay Collins and myself, hooked up with the Houston Texans football athletic trainers. With the state of the art facility, they helped us all get through the 20 performance rodeo with flying colors. Thanks Ish, Pirch and all you guys for the kind help! One day while icing my leg and doing some treatment, in walks Houston coach Gary Kubiak. He was such a nice guy and was really enjoying going to the rodeo. Coach and I had a lot to talk about since he used to play for the Denver Broncos and I am a Bronco fan. They hooked us all up with some cool Texans gear, so now I guess I’m a Houston Texan fan, too!
Then I headed north to the South of the Arbuckle Rodeo in Ardmore, Okla. This is a rodeo that had been dormant for a few years and is now being produced by PRCA stock contractor Maury Tate and PRCA bullfighter Andy Burelle. They both work really hard to make it a great rodeo and as if it wasn’t enough work, Andy planned his wedding in Las Vegas just days after the rodeo. I know how much work goes into both. I help produce my hometown rodeo in Burlington, Colo., and I am getting ready to marry Nikki Gagner on May 23. I guess Andy doesn’t look at his calendar well enough to tell there are 11 other months to choose from instead of having both in the same one… But, Andy pulled it off. He and Robyn were married in Vegas and everything was fantastic. I had the honor of standing up in his wedding, which was a real pleasure. It was nice to see everyone, since Andy and I both have a lot of the same friends.

Now that May is here, I have taken a break from my rodeos to get ready for my wedding. Now that I have 40 acres and a house in southern Colo., there is plenty to do. I have lived in my trailer on the road for the past 10 years, so the move was pretty easy. I just hooked on to my trailer and drove out to my new place. There were a lot of things that needed to be done, one of which was to build my overweight Welsh Corgi “Scooter” a handicapped ramp… This may seem odd but after 13 years with him at my side – I’d do just about anything for him.
I have been taking care of all the outside stuff and Nikki is doing a great job on the inside making this house a home. I still stay in the trailer, and will until we get married. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that it is very peaceful out here at our place, but at night we were hearing some strange noises. We later found out that there is a wild cat refuge a few miles away and we can hear lions and tigers… That’s right, lions and tigers… I hope they spend as much time working on their fence as I do on mine!
So, as you can see, I have been real busy and have a lot to get done before I get married and get back on the road again.
PRCA bullfighter and blogger Cory Wall demonstrated his handy-man side by doing some fencing near his home in southern Colorado. He wrote in his blog that there is a wild cat refuge nearby, so let’s hope the fence doesn’t have to be tested by the big cats. |
My next stop will be Gladewater, Texas. That sounds like a good place for a honeymoon, don’t you think?
Catch you down the road,
Cory
