Trevor Brazil

Ty Murray

Trevor Brazile is attempting to win a record-tying seventh All-Around World Championship, which would tie him with ProRodeo Hall of Famer and “King of Cowboys” Ty Murray.

Follow his progress through our weekly press release "The Trevor Brazile Watch”.

Trevor Brazile has an $118,128 lead on the field in his bid to equal Ty Murray’s record seven all-around world championships. If he wins that title and holds onto his $32,123 lead in the tie-

down roping, Brazile will have 11 world championships, tying him for third place on the career list with Dean Oliver and Charmayne James.

By making the fields in steer roping, tie-down roping and team roping (with Patrick Smith), Brazile now has qualified for national finals events 31 times. That’s fourth on the all-time list, just one back of boyhood idol Roy Cooper and Guy Allen; Tee Woolman holds the record with 42.

Brazile is all but assured of enjoying his fourth consecutive season with prize money of more than $300,000. He has earnings of $262,078, and anything like the sort of results he had last year in the National Finals Steer Roping (coming up Nov. 13-14) and the Wrangler NFR will break his PRCA record of $425,115, set in 2007.

Oct.5, 2009

Nine-time World Champion Trevor Brazile can add to his trophy case and bank account when he competes in the Heartland ProRodeo Steer Roping Finals on Oct. 13 in Waco, Texas. Brazile finished fifth in the Heartland steer roping standings, which was only used to qualify contestants. Once in Waco, the slate is cleaned, and ropers will battle for $32,000 in total prize money.

Brazile, sixth in the steer roping PRCA World Standings, has the opportunity to use the Waco event to help him narrow the $30,000 lead Scott Snedecor has on him.

Trevor Trivia

  • He is the PRCA’s first $3 million dollar man
  • He won the “Triple Crown” in 2007 by winning world titles in the all-around, steer roping and tie-down roping
  • Team roping (heading) horse Lite My Dynamite “Sic Em,” owned by Treda LLC and ridden by Brazile, placed second in the 2009 AQHA/PRCA Horse of the Year voting in its event.

“It’s definitely an edge in the all-around (race),” said Brazile from Decatur, Texas, who won steer roping world titles in 2006 and 2007. “It’s also an edge in the steer roping (competition for a world title). With four head, it’s one of our better steer ropings all year. It’s nice to have (the Heartland finals in Waco) right here before the steer roping finals (Nov. 13-14 in Guthrie, Okla.).

With Brazile’s hectic schedule, he was unable to get to 30 Heartland rodeos and qualify for the Heartland ProRodeo Championships, Oct. 9-17, in the tie-down roping or team roping. So, after Waco, he will go to some fall rodeos, which will count for the 2010 season, before heading to Las Vegas for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, Dec. 3-12.

“There used to be some off time before they raised the tie-down roping limit to 100 rodeos (for 2010),” Brazile said. “I guess the positive is that you’re not going into the Finals cold turkey. You’re not out of the rodeo groove.”

The NILE ProRodeo, Oct. 14-17, in Billings, Mont., is among those on Brazile’s 2010 schedule.

Sept.28, 2009

Trevor Brazile expanded his lead in the tie-down roping world standings to more than $34,000 over second-place Hunter Herrin by winning the Justin Boots Championships in Omaha. He had total earnings of $20,731 in that event at the Qwest Center and added another $5,808 by winning the first round of the team roping with partner Patrick Smith.

That brought his season total to $254,364, well ahead of the total he had on the same week in 2007 ($235,238) on his way to the single-season earnings record of $425,115. His all-around earnings total is more than $110,000 ahead of second-place Clint Robinson of Spanish Fork, Utah, as he seeks to earn his seventh all-around gold buckle, equal to the record held by Ty Murray.

In addition to leading the tie-down roping, Brazile, of Decatur, Texas, is fourth among team roping headers and sixth in the steer roping standings. If he were to win an individual championship and the all-around, Brazile would push his total to 11, equal to third on the all-time list with Dean Oliver and Charmayne James.

Sept.21, 2009

Trevor Brazile won the tie-down roping in 8.0 seconds at the Eastland County ProRodeo in Ranger, Texas, and placed in a round of team roping with Patrick Smith at the Pendleton Round-Up for earnings of $3,465 from Sept. 18-20. In El Paso, Brazile claimed the all-around by tying for third place in the tie-down roping and tying for sixth in the second round of team roping with Smith. All total, Brazile won $937 at the Southwestern International PRCA Rodeo, which concluded Sept. 20. The paydays brought his season total to $227,362 ahead of the total he had on the same week in 2007 ($215,768), on his way to the single-season earnings record of $425,115.

Brazile, of Decatur, Texas, is qualified in both team roping and tie-down roping for this week’s Justin Boots Championships in Omaha, Neb., where there is prize money of nearly $800,000.

Sept.8, 2009

Trevor Brazile collected two more all-around titles last week – to bring his total to 13 in six weeks – and advanced his bid for a record-tying seventh all-around world championship by traveling to three states and banking checks everywhere he went.

Brazile earned $4,531 at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, $2,119 at the Magic Valley Stampede in Filer, Idaho, and $5,413 at the Ellensburg (Wash.) Rodeo, missing a sweep of all-around titles only when Josh Peek out-earned him in Filer.

Still, it left Brazile with earnings of $218,265 through the Labor Day weekend, $20,552 ahead of his pace in 2007 when he set a single-season earnings record of $425,115.

And it could have been even better: Brazile and team roping partner Patrick Smith had what would have been an arena record time of 4.1 seconds at Ellensburg, but were assessed a 10-second penalty for breaking the barrier that kept them from cashing in the round and from reaching the short go.

Aug.31,2009

Even Trevor Brazile’s less productive weeks are pretty darn good.

Sure, Brazile failed to cash at Kennewick, Wash., and Lynden, Wash., but he won the steer roping at the Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo in Vinita, Okla., and was the all-around champion at the Kitsap County Fair & Rodeo in Bremerton, Wash., earning paychecks in team roping and tie-down roping.

It added $5,738 to his bottom line, bringing Brazile’s season all-around earnings to $206,202 and keeping him $8,489 ahead of his pace in 2007, when he set a single-season record of $425,115.

Brazile’s win in Vinita, with a two-head time of 22.1 seconds, moved him up a spot to fifth in the steer roping world standings. He leads the tie-down roping standings and is third among team roping headers.

Bremerton was Brazile’s 11th all-around title in the past five weeks.

He is currently competing in the Colorado State Fair & Rodeo in Pueblo, which ends Sept. 1.

Aug.24, 2009

A relaxed, confident Trevor Brazile is a scary thing to behold for his fellow PRCA roping competitors.

Brazile pulled another double victory in the Aug. 18-22 Caldwell (Idaho) Night Rodeo, winning the tie-down roping three-head average in a time of 25.6 seconds and the all-around with earnings of $9,549.

He also was the all-around champion at the Canby (Ore.) Rodeo to push his earnings for the weekend to $11,269 and his total of all-around titles to 10 over the last month.

Brazile now has a $94,164 lead over second-place Clint Robinson in the All-Around World Standings in his bid for a record-tying seventh all-around gold buckle. His total earnings of $200,463 put him $12,993 ahead of the pace he set in 2007 when he broke the single-season earnings record with $425,115.
