I separated some ribs during Houston and Austin, the week of my return from my lacerated liver injury at the WNFR.

I have been feeling great the last few weeks. There are little to no symptoms with a liver injury they tell me, which is why it is still very important to take it easy.

I can’t express the thanks and gratitude that I have received from family, friends and fans. I received overwhelming support from thousands of people.

We’ve been home now for a few weeks and it feels good! It was a good but long summer. We enjoyed our stay in the northwest all summer but we were ready to come home. There is no substitute for your own bed.

Photo of Gray’s new Dodge inside: Since I last checked in there has been a lot going on. First off, soon after my last blog I got my brand new Dodge Truck thanks to my bareback riding win at the Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo in April.

The entire month of June, I was fighting bulls in the arena with my cell phone in my pocket because my wife, Nikki, was 8 months pregnant.

The steer wrestling is going to be an exciting event to watch at the Finals as everyone is so close from 1 to 15, so anything can and probably will happen.

I thought I had better update everyone since I had a little time after the Fourth and before I head to Canada. What a whirlwind couple of weeks it was surrounding Cowboy Christmas.

I hope everyone had a very Happy Easter. I spent Easter in Clovis, Calif., where I won the second round with a 4.0 and added close to $2,000 to my earnings. Prior to heading to Clovis, I went to Springville, Calif., where I finished 3rd with a 4.2 and picked up just over $500. So, all in all, it was a fairly decent weekend. I got home in time for Cade to show me all his Easter goodies, which he had a lot of.

I am thrilled to report that I have had a great winter and currently lead the PRCA Steer Wrestling World Standings. I have been blessed these last two months, placing in every rodeo and making every short round.

Jason Miller and I made it safely home from the “Land Down Under” on Christmas Eve. It was another great trip over there for a couple of steer wrestling schools. We left on Dec. 13 for the long flight over, but this year it allowed me a chance to catch up on all the sleep I lost while in Las Vegas. I think I slept the majority of the trip over.

With Thanksgiving behind us that can only mean one thing – the 2010 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo is just days away. I am really looking forward to being back in Las Vegas because if you are a professional cowboy that is the only place you want to be in December running for all the money.

I would first like to thank everyone for their prayers and well wishes for a speedy recovery. A special thanks to my wife Kate, for helping me get through all of this and for my traveling partners Jason Havens and Ryan Gray who were with me when I got injured and kept insisting I be checked out at a hospital.

I can truly say that I have traveled to places in Canada that I never knew existed, as Mike Beers and I chase down a qualification in the team roping to the Canadian Finals.

Welcome to Cowboy Christmas and our 2011 planes, trains and automobile excursion. While this is the start of a hectic summer run, it is also a time we look forward to every year because we are usually competing in at least one if not three rodeos a day with a shot to win some serious cash. I have been very blessed the last couple years to have a good Fourth of July and I hope it continues this year.

I haven’t been able to practice roping much with the colder weather and all the wind. It has really been windy as of late.

The last time I wrote I was just getting “back on the horse”- if you will- after my sports hernia surgery, and I am happy to tell you it has been a successful comeback with my recent win at the 25th Dodge National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City.

The last time I wrote I was getting ready to head to Philadelphia, Pa., for surgery to repair a sports hernia. My wife, Kate, and I flew to Philadelphia on Sunday, Jan. 16. We met with the doctor on Monday the 17th and I had surgery on the 18th. Prior to the surgery we were able to be tourist in Philadelphia and got to see the Liberty Bell and several other spots downtown. We also got the taxi cab experience while up there. It was definitely a mixed bag of some good drivers and some not so good drivers but thankfully we lived through it all.

Looking back a year ago, I remember saying that I wanted to go to half as many rodeos this year but still be in a position to win a world title.

Since you only get one first time round win at the WNFR, I purchased the calf I won the round on. I wonder what I should name her?

ProRodeo Sports News: April 1
4/1/2011
In the April 1 issue of the ProRodeo Sports News, we look at the movie Lonesome Dove and the way it still resonates with PRCA cowboys more than 20 years after its 1989 premiere as a CBS miniseries. As PSN Staff Writer Marvin Olberding caught up with some of today’s cowboys to hear what makes the movie special to them, Rodeo Editor Blaine Santos interviewed some of the men who were a part of making the movie – all of whom are PRCA Gold Card members.
